The Psychopath Test
I recently finished Jon Ronson’s The Psychopath Test and it’s a hilarious, fascinating read. I laughed till my ribs ached. Ronson explores the idea of society being motivated by insanity including the notion that some of the world’s most powerful, influential people may actually be psychopaths. Those who don’t have emotional controls that stop them going that step further, a lack of empathy and no conscience. It makes some sense when you think of the wars that have occurred and some of the heartless, self serving decisions made by so called democratic governments. Ronson, in a fearless, admirable way sets about meeting psycopaths, those whose lives have been touched by madness and those whose job it is to diagnose it. Along the way the intrepid journalist encounters all kinds of wacky, frightening and strange characters. It’s eye opening and Ronson has a great sense of comic timing.
